On Monday, WhatsApp began rolling out an update for its Android app bringing new features and privacy settings for devices running Android v2.1 and higher.
The update brought with it several new features for Android devices. One new feature is the option to hide the "last seen" notification, profile picture, and status through privacy settings. In order to use this new feature, users will have to install the latest version of WhatsApp, v2.11.186, from the Google Play Store. Once the application is updated, this feature can be found under the settings menu under account settings. Users can hide all three pieces of information from people not on their contact list, from specific people, or from everyone. This option already existed on WhatsApp for iOS. In addition, the app added an option to share and save profile photos and group icons and allows users to pay for their friends' WhatsApp service. The update also added an option to show unread messages on the home screen widget for devices running Android 3.0 and higher. Some other additions include a camera shortcut for quicker picture sending, large video thumbnails in char, and an option to increase the message history a user can send.
The WhatsApp Android update also fixed a few issues on some devices. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 voice recording volume bug has been fixed with this new update. For Sony Xperia phones running Android 4.1 and higher, the update enabled Hindi language support. The WhatsApp update is now available on the Google Play Store.
