Google has officially joined the Universal Stylus Initiative, which aims to set standards for the development of Stylus compatible with various smart devices, an initiative that includes large names including Intel and Lenovo to name a few.

The initiative seeks to develop a single standard for data exchange between the device and the pen, and vice versa, to ensure an experience that makes the use of the pen possible with all devices without having to go through complicated steps during the installation process. These pens will also be able to save user preferences for automatic adoption of the device. The standard also provides that more than one pen can be used on the same device at the same time.

Google may support this standard in its smartphones and notebooks, which means one pen compatible with PixelBook, ChromeBook and Pixel phones.
