Report: Apple Supplier Making a Record 500000 iPhone 5S Units a Day - Mashable

Apple may finally be catching up to demand for the iPhone 5S.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Apple has requested its supplier, Foxconn, shift resources away from the cheaper iPhone 5C and increased production for the iPhone 5S, helping to reduce wait times for the latter device.

One anonymous source tells the Journal that Foxconn is now producing 500,000 iPhone 5S devices per day, the most that the manufacturer has ever produced. To help achieve that amount, sources say Foxconn now has 600 employees working on the 5S production line, compared to 500 who worked on previous iPhone devices.

Apple did not immediately respond to our request for comment.

Apple's first marketing efforts after the iPhone launch event in September were entirely focused on the iPhone 5C, which some took as a sign that the cheaper device was easier to produce and therefore less supply constrained. The gold iPhone 5S model in particular was reportedly only available in very small supply at launch.

A little more than a month later, however, Apple began marketing the 5S device. Around the same time, reports suggested that Apple was cutting orders for the iPhone 5C in a move that suggested lower consumer demand.
