Google Keyboard 2.0

Google is doing its best to deliver Android 4.4 KitKat features to as many users as possible. An update to Google keyboard was just released in the Play Store, bringing some noticeable changes and some features that users will either love or hate.

First change you'll notice is the color scheme, Google changed the color of the whole UI. If you are familiar with Android you may know that before the 4.4 (KitKat) update the whole UI had a Tron-esque vibe using a blue (named Holo Blue.) and black colour scheme. However, with KitKat, Google has opted for a cleaner look with simple white (more oriented towards the card UI that Google Now and several Google apps use.). As you might have already expected, some users don't agree with Google's decision to use white and are resisting the change but if history has taught us anything, it is really just a matter of time when everybody gets habitual to the new coloring scheme.

Another change you may notice is the implementation of Emoji, these are now a built-in feature for the Google Keyboard 2.0. Sadly, users that are on previous versions of Android (4.3 and under.) won't be getting the full Emoji experience, they will get some icons, but only black and white colored. Kit Kat is required for Emoji to be fully-colored.

The swype feature has also been updated with Google Keyboard 2.0. The stock keyboard now has a far better dictionary and an even better prediction engine to complement it with.

Something you won't notice at first glance but will be bothering you at first is the punctuation, the keys have been moved from the previous version according to different screen sizes (4", 7", and 10") users have reported that getting used to the new layout didn't take much time, but it did bother them for quite a while.

The update has been released, but rolling out in stages, so even if it is out, the update may not be available to your device yet. (Don't worry, you will get it eventually.)
