Nokia accounts for 90% of Windows Phone sales: Report - Times of India

NEW DELHI: Finnish smartphone maker Nokia, which has placed its fortunes on Microsoft's operating system, accounts for nearly 90% of all Windows Phone smartphone sales. This marks an increase of 3% over the previous month, an indicator of the exposure that Nokia's Windows Phone line-up is getting.

Market tracker AdDuplex has released the data for September 2013, which shows that Nokia Lumia phones outsell Windows Phone handsets made by other manufacturers.

HTC, Samsung and Huawei are the only other manufacturers working on Microsoft's mobile platform. However, all three have released only a few WP8 handsets in the past year, while Nokia has launched eight in 201 3 alone.

Globally, Nokia Lumia 520 was the most popular WP handset for September 2013, accounting for 23.2% of total sales. It was followed by Lumia 920 and Lumia 620 at 9.2% and Lumia 710 at 7.7%.

In India, Lumia 520 is responsible for 40.6% of total Windows Phone sale. Lumia 720 and Lumia 620 are the second and third highest selling Microsoft-powered smartphones in the country at 13.4% and 10.8%, respectively.

Lumia 625, the biggest Nokia smartphone till date, has not found any traction in the Indian market and accounts for just 3.1% of sales.

Windows Phone 8 is running on 70.9% of all Microsoft-powered smartphones as of now, while 29.1% are still on Windows Ph one 7 platform (launched in 2011).

Nokia shareholders will vote on selling its handset division to Microsoft in November.
