Week 30 in review: Lumia 530, LG G3 LTE-A, Xiaomi reaches India ~ Electronic Gadgets

The Week In Review is our series meant to recap all the major announcements of the week, which you might have missed. Week 30 of 2014 saw four new devices going official including the Lumia 530, but it also brought us various interesting leaks.

This week's highlight is the Nokia Lumia 530 announcement. It's the successor of the most popular and bestselling Windows Phone device worldwide - the Lumia 520. It comes with a 4" FWVGA display, Snapdragon 200 chipset with a quad-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 CPU, 512MB of RAM, a 5MP cam and 4GB expandable storage. You can have it in single and dual-SIM flavors, both running on WP8.1 with Lumia Cyan.

Just like Samsung did a while ago, LG unveiled an upgraded version of its G3 flagship, exclusive to South Korea. The LG G3 LTE-A Cat 6 (previously referred to as LG G3 Prime) builds on the international G3 hardware but improves with a faster chipset - the Snapdragon 805 with 3 GB of RAM and the Adreno 420 GPU.

Two new slates went official this week, too. Nvidia announced the Shield Tablet with Tegra K1 chipset. It packs an 8" IPS LCD display with 1920 x 1200 pixels and is powered by the Tegra K1 chipset with a dual-core Cortex-A15 CPU, 2GB of RAM and a 192-core Kepler GPU. The Shield Tablet comes in a 16GB Wi-Fi and 32GB Wi-Fi + 4G LTE flavors and costs $299 and $399, respectively. Expect it to hit the US in the coming weeks, while the Europe and the UK customers can order one from mid-August.

The affordable Samsung Galaxy TabQ with 7" display was announced for China a few days ago. It sports a 7-inch TFT 720p display, a quad-core 1.2GHz processor, an 8MP rear camera, 2MP front snapper, and 3,200 mAh battery. Connectivity options of the TabQ include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, GLONASS and 4G LTE. The tablet will be compatible with China Mobile and China Unicom.

Xiaomi made quite the impact this week with its planned expansion over India. It launches its Mi 3 smartphone over there and it was sold out in under 40 minutes. Xiaomi also announced the Mi 4 and Mi band for the Chinese market.

Now let's start with all those spicy rumors and leaks. You bet the iPhone 6 made a few more rounds this week. We got news the iPhone 6 will be announced in mid-September and it should become available on September 19. It is also tipped to come with backlit Apple logo that is supposed to be used as notification light.

Sony Xperia Z3 couldn't stay away from the spotlight either. First it was spotted over the Japanese FCC and then it leaked via two live images.

Finally, Samsung Galaxy Alpha completely conquered the news last Thursday leaking in details with specs and pictures. It should come with a 4.7" Super AMOLED screen, LTE-enabled Exynos chipset, 32GB non-expandable storage, fingerprint and heart-rate sensors, Galaxy S5-like plastic rear cover and metallic frame.

Finally, a metal-clad Huawei C199 got its certification from the Chinese wireless authority TENAA. It packs a 5.5" 720p screen, a 13MP rear and a 5MP front snapper, and is powered by a homebrewed HiSilicon Kirin 920 chipset. The chipset is based on ARM's big.LITTLE design with four Cortex-A15 cores and four Cortex-A7 cores, plus Mali-T628 MP4 graphics. The phone comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage and will launch with Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box.
