Google is reportedly planning to operate its own wireless network in regions that already have Google Fiber high-speed internet in the US.

According to reports from The Information, the search company hopes to become a mobile virtual network operator or MVNO by purchasing access to a larger network at wholesale rates and further reselling it to consumers.

In addition, reports also added that Google held talks with Verizon about the option in early 2014, while it also negotiated with Sprint about a similar deal the earlier year.

Currently, Google's Fiber networks are built in Kansas City, Missouri and Provo, Utah, while it is planning to build network in Austin, with further expansion plans into Atlanta, Georgia; Portland, Oregon; San Jose, California; in addition to six other metro areas.

Google's move into wireless would mainly target the Verizon and AT&T duopoly, while complicating its bond with carriers, transforming from mobile device producer like the Moto X to a direct competitor.

However, Google indirectly competes with telecom operators through its video and voice services.
