Nokia's much-anticipated Android-based Nokia X (or Normandy), has remained a fixture in the rumour mill for months now. But there are still lingering doubts about whether Nokia will indeed release this phone. But now that it has received certification in Indonesia and Malaysia, it's looking less like a ghost and more like the real deal.
Malaysian website Lowyat reports that A Nokia smartphone bearing the model number RM-980 recently passed through Malaysia's certification body SIRIM, while two other instances of the phone were also spotted under the names of Avaxx and Zitron, companies which distribute Nokia phones in the country.
Last month , we got a sneak peek at what were allegedly the Nokia X's specs. The rumoured Nokia X is likely to sport a 4-inch 800×480 display and come powered by a dual-core 1GHz processor with 512MB of RAM. It is expected to support dual SIM functionality along with 4GB onboard storage, microSD card slot, 5-megapixel camera and 1500 mAh battery.
We have also heard reports and seen glimpses of the UI that Nokia will be using for its Android-based phone. The screenshots of the UI show a Windows Phone-like tiled UI as well as influence of Nokia's Fastlane UI. The Fastlane UI is a staple with Nokia's entry-level Asha line of phones and it only seems apt since Nokia's expecting Normandy too to cater to the same price bracket.
Nokia has an event scheduled for later this month during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Multiple reports say that the company will unveil the Nokia X at the event, so we won't have to wait too long to find out what exactly the Normandy is.
