Chief Executive Officer Dara Khosrowshahi told uber that the company is working on a self-driving taxi project to deliver passengers and is expected to enter service mid-year next year.

He explained that with the availability of self-driving cars today in the streets, it is believed that within 18 months real taxis can be placed and not for the actual service experience.

This does not mean that all uber cars will be self-driving. Some people can even request a self-driving taxi if they can handle such vehicles.

Several factors play a role in determining if uber will send a car with a driver or self-driving such as availability of road information and accurate maps, weather conditions, technical road conditions and others.

Uber plans to raise the proportion of self-driving taxis even in difficult conditions over the coming years until the user reaches a situation where he can choose whether he wants a car with a driver or self-driving when he asks uber service.

Uber faces a major legal battle with company Waymo, where charges are circulating about stealing trade secrets and Waymo seeks compensation for about $ 2.6 billion.
