MWC 2018: Nokia promises "staggering" ads

Nokia promises to announce new things at the MWC 2018. What can prepare HMD Global, the manufacturer of smartphones brand?

The teasing begins

In recent weeks, Nokia's news was rather quiet, especially in the West. The manufacturer has indeed started the year with the announcement of a new smartphone Nokia 6 (2018), but it is currently reserved for China.

Juho Sarvikas, head of HMD Global products, the company that designs Nokia smartphones, spoke on Twitter to apologize for the relative calm. He took the opportunity to teaser the announcement of new products at the Mobile World Congress 2018 in Barcelona in February. The show should be "staggering" according to him, but what novelties can prepare the manufacturer?

In 2017, HMD Global took Mobile World Congress news by presenting the Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and the European release of the Nokia 6 at a single conference. These three smartphones were the entry-level catalog of the brand, with the new Nokia 3310 which had also made the headlines. It was not until later in the year, at the end of the summer, to see the Nokia 8, the first flagship of the manufacturer.

We imagine that the firm could renew the experience and, at least, announce the European release of the Nokia 6 (2018). The most common rumors about the plans of the manufacturer speak of the development of Nokia 1, a very accessible smartphone in Android Go, the lighter version of the system. HMD could also announce a global release of Nokia 2 and Nokia 7, launched in a few markets in 2017.

The product that is undoubtedly the most subject of rumors is the Nokia 9, name given by the press to the next flagship of the brand. This new smartphone has already passed its certifications and its design has already been confirmed by several leaks. It should notably benefit from an OLED screen curved on the sides, in the manner of high-end Samsung smartphones, and a double photo sensor on the front.

All that remains is to formalize this new highly anticipated device, its price and its release date. It could be the first Nokia device running Android 8.0 Oreo, and therefore compatible with the Treble project.
