| Malicious additions in Google Chrome |
Researchers from ICEBRG have found malicious software in four additions to the Google Chrome browser that have been downloaded more than 500,000 times, which Google has removed immediately.
The company detected abnormal activity in the network when using the Change HTTP Request Header, Nyoogle, Stickies, and finally Lite Bookmarks, which share data with external servers without user knowledge.
According to the company's analysis, what is happening in secret is to visit some of the advertising links to increase the number of impressions of those ads, without any malicious activity leads the user. However, spying on user activity occurs as long as it makes requests to other servers that the user is unaware of.
Google immediately removed the plugins from the store as soon as it was discovered. It should be noted that this is not the first time malicious extensions have been found in secret, but the company is seeking immediate protection of the user and take the necessary security measures
