Android 5.1 is now available for AT&T's original Moto X

AT&T and Motorola have made the Android 5.1 update for the original Moto X from 2013 available today. This follows in the footsteps of its successor, which got the bits on AT&T at the beginning of the month. The update is rolling out over-the-air to devices in the form of a soak test - so only certain units are going to be receiving it this way, at least for now.

However, Motorola has made the update "open for pull" for anyone who wants it. What this means is that you can have the new software too, if you simply attempt to pull it down manually.

So go to your Moto X's About section and find the Check for updates option and tap it. After that you should see a notification like the one in the image on the left. If you choose not to do this and wait, you'll get the new bits after AT&T and Motorola have deemed the update ready for general consumption. The update requires around 200 to 400 MB of free space on your phone.

After applying the new release, you'll be on software version 222.26.1. Aside from the bump in Android iteration, this will also bring you updates to Motorola Assist and Migrate, NFC, and enhancements to Active notifications, SmartBoost, MotoCare, as well as other fixes.
