Just a day after there were reports that Google is planning to offer wireless service in the United States, Bloomberg Businessweek is reporting that that the Mountain View company has reached an agreement with Sprint, under which it will operate as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) - paying for capacity on the carriers network and then selling the service to its own customers.
The deal is said to be facilitated by Masayoshi Son, the president of SoftBank, which bought Sprint in 2013, and the report notes that the search giant may start its service as soon as this year.
Although it isnt yet clear why exactly Google is stepping into the wireless business, the report speculates that the move could enable the company to sell mobile ads to an even larger audience.
