It was not really surprising that the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will have a fingerprint scanner - the Samsung Galaxy S5 already made that likely and there have been leaks. But what perhaps was up to question is whether Samsung will use the same technology and sensor as the one in the Galaxy S5 smartphone - and now we know the answer is yes.
According to sources close to the Galaxy Note 4 development, the device will use Synaptics' Natural ID sensor which uses both the surface of the home button but also the bottom of the screen to get a clear reading of your fingerprint.
The same tech is embedded into the buttons and displays of the Galaxy Alpha as well. The technology means that unlike Apple's Touch ID, you need to swipe your finger starting from the screen and moving through the button, which isn't as comfortable on a 5"+ device. Hopefully now that the screen is also involved, the accuracy will improve.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will reportedly be able to launch certain applications from the lockscreen via a fingerprint as well - different fingerprints will open up different apps.
And finally the Galaxy Note 4 will allegedly prompt you to use your fingerprint as a web log in for websited - after you've typed your username and password the phone will be able to replace them with your print for future logins.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will go live on the IFA 2014 floor in Berlin on September 3.
