Sensors invading India's Digital Universe: Study
EMC on Monday announced results of the seventh EMC Digital Universe study, which has been done to quantify and forecast the amount of digital data produced each year.
This year's study titled "The Digital Universe of Opportunities: Rich Data and the Increasing Value of the Internet of Things" shows that the growing demand for wireless technologies, together with the growth in Internet consumption, migration to digital TV and increasing "sensors" based machine to machine communication have played an important role in increasing India's data.
The report showed that the digital universe is India is increasing twice in size every two years and will multiply 9-fold between 2013 and 2020 - from 326 exabytes to 2.8 zetabytes.
The increased use of sensor has changed India's digital universe completely in the past two years or so. The study noted that The Internet of Things is set to influe nce the massive amounts of "useful data" in the digital universe.
The study said that in future the businesses will not have to scour vast amounts of data and they can achieve their goals by focusing on high-value, "target rich" data that makes up around 1.7% of the current Digital Universe.
This phenomenon will change the ways of interaction with customers by streamlining business cycles, and reducing operational costs, stimulating huge opportunity for businesses.
Another key finding of the study was that emerging markets are producing more data with 60% of data in the digital universe at present coming from mature markets such as Germany, Japan, and the United States, but by 2020, emerging markets including India, Brazil, China, Mexico and Russia will take the lead.
