WhatsApp Android users can finally turn off 'last seen' timestamp - Firstpost

Mobile messenger 'WhatsApp', which is being acquired by Facebook in 19 billion US Dollars, has finally rolled-out the feature to disable to the 'Last Seen' timestamp on Android smartphones.

The new update also includes the ability to limit visibility of profile photos and status.

With the release of v2.11.169, WhatsApp has finally taken care of some privacy issues and puts users in control again. This means that your contacts will no longer know when you were last using your phone. You can set it to be seen by certain contacts or simply turn it off.

So far, this feature was only available to iOS users.

It is now included under the privacy settings on the WhatsApp for Android app.

The new feature is not yet available for download on the Google Play store. However, you can download it from the WhatsApp website.

WhatsApp also released another feature that allows you to hide your profile picture and status from people who are not in your contact list or people in your list, you don't want looking through your personal information. Here you can also select to show it to everyone, which is the default option, only to your contacts, or even to nobody as well.

This feature however is specific to Android. It is yet to debut for iOS phones.

Once you have installed the app, open WhatsApp, tap on settings from the menu, then go to Account and there you will find a new option 'Privacy' added atop other existing options. The new features can be used from within the privacy settings.

According to TechCrunch, you can also turn off Group Chat Notifications with the new settings.
