Ensuring they can do away poor ratings, Volkswagen India earlier in the week announced dual front airbags as standard for all Polo variants from 1st February 2014. This is a major driver safety enhancement, and also makes VW India the first automaker here to offer dual front airbags as standard equipment in the premium hatchback segment.
In the 64km/h NCAP test, the Volkswagen Polo without airbags achieved a zero-star rating for its adult occupant protection. While vehicle structure was stable, without safety equipment such as airbags, dummy readings indicated a high risk of life-threatening injuries.
Using the child seats recommended by Volkswagen, the Polo achieved a three-star rating for child protection. Without airbags, the Polo was not able to meet the UN's minimum safety requirements in the 56km/h crash test.
In furthering safety, Volkswagen nopw offers anti-lock brakes (ABS) as standard on the Polo Comfortline. The changes entail a 2.7% price hike on all Polo variants, i.e., Rs 22,700 effective from 1st February 2014.
