BlackBerry, the Canadian smartphone maker, after announcing it would be extending its BlackBerry Messenger service to the recently unveiled Nokia X family of Android devices, and Windows Phone handsets, is now looking for more options to make a better use of its BBM service.

The firm looking ahead and exploring the options of transferring money through BBM. "We're meeting with partners and we are exploring the market," stated John Sims, BlackBerry enterprise unit president to Recode in an interview on Tuesday. "Money movement is an important thing."

Sims additionally mentions that he sees a great potential for the popular BBM service to grow in markets like Indonesia and Latin America. The firm is also said to have tried its BBM Money Service in Indonesia, teaming up with a local bank in the region.

BlackBerry Messaging, or BBM, is a messaging platform that offers collaboration tools such as BBM Groups, BBM Voice and BBM Channels and competes with services such as WhatsApp, which Facebook bought last week for $19 billion.

BBM will be available as a free download from the Windows Phone Store this summer, while BBM for Nokia X will be available from the Nokia Store when the Nokia X platform launches, BlackBerry said in a statement on Monday.

The firm also introduced its BBM service for the Android 2.3 Gingerbread users. Notably, the popular BBM app was earlier only available for devices running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or higher.
