After entering the Indian tablet market by launching XOLO Tab in September last year, Lavaâ™s sub-brand XOLO has started the new year 2014 with the launch of a 5.7 inch phablet. Christened XOLO Q3000, the device sports a full high definition (FHD) display and runs on the Android operating system. Targeted at the mid-price range segment, the device is currently available for purchase for Rs 20,999.
Here is a look at the specifications of the device.
The phablet features a 5.7 inch IPS FHD touchscreen display (1920×1080 pixels resolution) with 386 pixels per inch (ppi) pixel density, and is powered by a 1.5 GHz MTK 6589 Turbo quad-core processor with PowerVR SGX544 graphics. The device runs on the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system and comes with 2 GB RAM. The internal memory of the device is 16 GB (actual available internal phone storage may differ depending on the software configuration), which can be further expanded up to 32 GB with a microSD card.
On the camera front, this one sports a 13 mega pixel autofocus rear camera with Flash and digital zoom that can also record full high definition videos (1080p) and a 5 MP front-facing camera for video calling. Both the cameras have back-illuminated sensor (BSI), while the rear camera also comes with a burst mode, high dynamic range (HDR) mode, face recognition, and panorama capture, among other features. In terms of connectivity, the device has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and 3G, as well as a microSD card slot and a microUSB port.
It measures 164.8mm x 81.6mm x 8.9mm and according to the company, the phabletâ™s 4,000 mAh battery will provide up to 21 (3G) & 33 (2G) hours of talk time and over 634 (3G) & 667 (2G) hours of standby time. In addition, it will offer up to 9 hours of browsing, 74 hours of music playback, and 9 hours of video playback. The device also has GPS (with A-GPS support), dual-SIM (GSM+GSM) capability, and will be available in white and black colours.
In the under Rs 25,000 price range and the 5 inch & above screen size, the device will compete with the likes Samsung Galaxy Mega with 5.8 inch display (Rs 23,400), Panasonic P51 with 5 inch display (Rs 22,390), Lenovo K900 with 5.5 inch display (Rs 23,999), and Gionee Elife E6 with 5 inch display (Rs 21,300), among others. As far as its specifications are concerned (and the price at which it is being offered) the device is definitely worth a buy. However, whether the XOLO brand will be able to entice consumers enough to make a purchase is another matter all together.
A few days earlier, the company had also launched its first 4G LTE smartphone called XOLO LT900. The device sports a 4.3 inch HD display, runs on the Android 4.2 OS, and is powered by a 1.5 GHz Krait dual-core processor. This one comes with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory that can be expanded up to 32GB. The device is available for a price of Rs 17,999.
