PEOPLE WHO PLAY on the Xbox One games console have played in droves and clocked 50 million played hours in just 11 days.
Microsoft said that demand for the Xbox One has been unprecedented, but if it's surprised then perhaps it forgot how much effort and money it put into marketing the games console.
It said that the hardware is sold out in a lot of stores, and claimed that its Xbox One staff and people that work in shops are working "around the clock" to restock.
As a result, Microsoft is ecstatic. "We are humbled and gratified by the overwhelming response from our fans to the launch of Xbox One. Eleven days in we are seeing record breaking sales and are selling every Xbox One we can make," said Microsoft corporate VP of Xbox strategy and marketing Yusef Mehdi.
"Demand is far exceeding supply in the 13 countries we've launched and we are sold out at retailers around the world. We are seeing incredible usage from our engaged fans who have purchased Xbox One with more than 50 million hours spent on Xbox One games and entertainment."
The firm also said that it is doing well in online gaming, and is increasingly becoming the "most popular online multiplayer community for gamers".
Gamers apparently are throwing themselves into killing zombies and driving cars. Microsoft said that three billion zombies have been dispatched in Dead Rising 3 and that Forza 5 drivers have taken 3,673 trips around the world.
The Xbox One has been a brisk seller, and has put a wide smile on Microsoft.
"The team is excited to confirm the launch of Xbox One was the biggest launch in Xbox history, with more than one million consoles sold through worldwide in less than 24 hours - surpassing day one Xbox 360 sales and setting a new record for Microsoft," the company said. ยต
