Hyundai sells 33000 units of Grand i 10 in 3 months - mydigitalfc.com

Hyundai Motor India, India's second-largest car manufacturer and the country's largest exporter, has made it to the ranks of top five selling car brands in the country with its new model Grand i10 amid sluggish demand in a tough market due to slowing economy.

"The company has sold over 33,000 units of the Grand i10 in India in flat 90 days, and entered into the league of the top five selling car brands in the country," Rakesh Srivastava, senior vice president, sales and marketing at Hyundai Motor India, told Financial Chronicle.

At present, the top five selling cars in India include Maruti Suzuki's Alto, DZire, Swift, WagonR and Hyundai Grand i10 range. The other five which come in the best 10 brands are Mahindra's Bolero and Scorpio, Maruti Suzuki's Ertiga, Hyundai's Santro and Eon.

Any brand which crosses sales figures of 10,000 units per month has a fair chance of being included in the top five rankings.

"We were overwhelmed when Grand i10 started featuring among the top five brands from the second month of the launch out of about 72 models of 18 car manufacturers in the country," Srivastava said. He said in October, the car had made it to five digits at 11,519 units, a rare achievement in the tough market with low buying sentiments.

The new car was launched on September 3 this year. It has five variants in petrol version with a price tag between Rs 4.3 lakh and Rs 5.95 lakh in New Delhi showrooms. The diesel version with seven variants costs in the Rs 5.25 lakh – Rs 6.47 lakh range.

According to Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), the diesel engine has a high fuel efficiency of 24 km per litre and the petrol engine delivers the best-in-class mileage of 18.9 km per litre.

The Korean brand received over 1.24 lakh footfalls at its dealerships across all regions and has managed to give 1.65 lakh test drives to customers, the company said. It claimed that the car had generated high interest level amidst the younger generation in metros as well as tier II cities.

"At present, the top end variants have a waiting period of about two months and the lower end models three-four weeks," Srivastava said.

He said the company was in the process of ramping up production from the present 6.43 lakh units to 6.70 lakh units annually at its facility at Chennai.

"The ramping up will help reduce the waiting period for our customers," Srivastava said.

The company has 552 sales outlets, 962 service stations and 305 rural outlets, apart from the 297 "advantage showrooms" where customers could exchange their old cars for new brands.

The company sold a total of 49,681 cars last month. The domestic sales accounted for 33,501 units and exports stood at 16,180 units.
