Google Newsstand has been created by merging Google magazines app with its Flipboard-like Currents app.
Google has announced the launch of a Newsstand app similar to Apple's, but with blogs along with the traditional digital formats of newspapers and magazines. The app has been created by merging Google magazines app with its Flipboard-like Currents app. However, the app is not yet available in India.
The Officialandroid blog said: "Newsstand puts the news you care about most front and center and presents stories that interest you based on your tastes. The more you read the better it will get." This suggests the apps will be intuitive and intelligent, learning what you like and pushing relevant content.
The new Google Play Newsstand offers more than 1,900 free and paid news sources, including newspaper subscritions from top players like The Financial Times, Los Angeles Times, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, magazines like The Economist, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone and TIME, as well as popular blogs like Cool Hunting and The Verge along with news sites like Huffington Post and The Guardian. Google Currents user will be upgraded to the new app, along with all their content.
The post -- by Mussie Shore, Product Manager for Google Play Newsstand -- says in all countries except US, UK, Canada and Australia you "can download the Play Newsstand app for your Android phone or tablet from Google Play". However, the app is not available in India either on Android devices or even of the Google play store.
