Samsung isn't the only one cheating in smartphone benchmarks - CNET

The Galaxy Note 3 isn't the only smartphone optimising for benchmarks, apparently.

Following news that Samsung that added tweaks to boost the benchmark scores of its Galaxy S4 and Note 3, Anandtech is now reporting that other manufacturers are doing so as well. Apple and Motorola are the only two OEM not doing so with their handsets.

Anandtech tested devices from Asus, HTC, LG and found them to be using tweaks as well. Samsung tablets (including those running on Intel Atom) were not spared from these benchmark optimizations. Sony was not included as the company does not provide samples to Anandtech, according to a tweet from Anand Shimpi.

Lastly, the report ended by stating that the "hilarious part of all of this is we're still talking about small gains in performance." CPU gains were about 0 - 5 percent, while GPU was around 10 percent or so and that it would be "far less painful for the OEMs to just stop this nonsense and instead demand better performance/power efficiency from their silicon vendors."
