HTC beats Samsung in Android 4.3 Jelly Bean race - Techie News

HTC has beat Samsung in the race to provide Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update to its latest flagship smartphone – the HTC One.

AT&T approved HTC's Android 4.3 ROM for the HTC One just a couple of days back and an over-the-air update should start rolling out very soon revealed Jason MacKenzie, HTC USA President. This means that Samsung, which hasn't still provided a timeline for the Android 4.3 update for its Galaxy S4 device is lagging behind.

There isn't a great deal of difference between Android 4.2 and 4.3 except some under the hood features and improvement which don't affect the visual aspects of the OS to a great extent. The towards releasing latest ROMs for their smartphones does indicate that OEMs are concerned about fragmentation themselves and want to fight it off by providing latest ROMs as soon as possible.

The update will be available to all HTC One users who are on AT&T network sometime today or early next week – those with Google Play edition of the smartphone shouldn't expect it though. Verizon customers will have to wait a little longer as the carrier hasn't certified the ROM yet, but we expect it to be sometime soon. Sprint already certified the ROM last week and users should have already a received notification about a pending update. If they haven't they should have it early next week.

It seems that all those apps that Samsung pre-loaded on the handset are causing the delay in ROM certification. Too many pre-installed apps, what say Samsung?
