Three models on Maruti recall list - Calcutta Telegraph

New Delhi, April 11: In one of the biggest vehicle recalls in India, Maruti Suzuki today said it would replace fuel filler necks in 1,03,311 units of the Ertiga, the Swift and the Dzire, manufactured between November 12, 2013 and February 4, 2014.

The recall will impact 42,481 units of the Dzire, 47,237 units of the Swift and 13,593 units of the Ertiga.

Clarifying earlier reports of the company recalling as many as 1.5 lakh Dzires to replace the faulty fuel filler neck, Maruti today said it would fix similar faults in the other specified models.

A faulty fuel neck filler, which is connected to the fuel tank, may result in fuel smell and in extreme condition leakage, if filled beyond the "auto cut-off level".

"Maruti Suzuki dealers will contact owners of all vehicles in the above mentioned range. The company will replace the fuel filler neck free of cost," the company said.

The new fuel filler necks are being dispatched to the dealer workshops.

"Considering the number of vehicles impacted, the company is building up stock of the required component at its dealer workshops, before inviting customers," the company said.

In February 2010, Maruti had recalled about one lakh units of the A-Star to replace a faulty fuel pump part.

In 2011, it had ordered inspection of around 13,157 models of the Swift, the Dzire and the Ritz for possible problems with connecting rod bolts.

Last year, Maruti had recalled 1,492 units of the Ertiga, Swift, Dzire and A-Star to fix a problem with the steering column.

Auto companies have been pro-active in recalling vehicles on safety grounds after industry body Siam initiated a voluntary recall policy in 2012.
