Maruti to recall 1 lakh 'faulty' Dzires - Hindustan Times

In one of the biggest vehicle recalls in India, Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) is set to recall over 100,000 units of its bestselling sedan Swift Dzire to replace a faulty fuel tank component. Some cars manufactured between 2013 and 2014 will be affected by the recall.

The company refused to offer any comments. Industry insiders, however, said the company has already begun replacing the faulty fuel neck filler that is connected to the fuel tank in some cars that are lying at various dealerships. The recall is expected to spread to cars already on the road over the next few days – after the company identifies the batches that are affected. Individual customers will then be contacted by dealers and the part replaced free of cost.

Dzire was given a midlifecycle facelift in 2012 and is the third largest selling car in India, after Maruti Suzuki Alto and Suzuki Swift, with sales of 197,685 units in 2013-14. Priced between Rs. 4.85- 7.32 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), it has seen increased competition from rivals like Honda Amaze and the recently launched Hyundai Xcent. The recall may hamper its prospects in the near term.

"I have been out of the country for the last 5-6 days and have no knowledge of this," said RC Bhargava, non-executive chairman, MSIL. "I am not involved in the day to day running of the company. Maybe some of the Japanese officials in the firm are aware of it."

Over the past two years, there have has been a spate of recalls in India. Last year, General Motors had recalled 114,000 units of its multi-utility vehicle Tavera to fix emission issues.

The last big recall by Maruti was in February 2010 when it recalled about 100,000 units of its flagship export model A-Star to replace a faulty fuel pump part.
