Nokia Lumia 520 vs. HTC Desire 300: Design

The HTC Desire 300 measures 131.78 x 66.23 x 10.12mm and weighs 120g. When it comes to design, you can choose from a range of colours as long as it's Black or White.

The Nokia Lumia 520 measures 119.9 x 64 x 9.9mm and weighs in at 124g and has a clear edge in terms of design as the interchangeable shells allow you to switch and change the colour and look of your phone whenever you wish. Nokia Lumia 520 vs. HTC Desire 300: Display

Nokia Lumia 520 vs. HTC Desire 300: Tech Spec

The Nokia Lumia 520 runs the latest Windows Phone 8 operating system, which is power efficient so the 1GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor backed by 512MB of RAM helps apps and games load quickly and smoothly. What's more, with the Nokia Lumia Black update just rolled out and the ability to move to Windows Phone 8.1 when it launches later this year, the Lumia 520 has a future upgrade path.

The HTC Desire 300 also sports the same 1GHz Snapdragon processor, albeit with a different chipset, backed by 512MB of RAM. However, with its Android Jelly Bean you'll find that this phone isn't running the latest version of the Android OS, and with little chance of it ever being capable of receiving the latest updates, it is rather limited in its flexibility and future outlook.

Nokia Lumia 520 vs. HTC Desire 300: Storage

The Nokia Lumia 520 also has an edge when it comes to storage, as you'll find 8GB of internal memory, along with a microSD slot that supports up to 64GB cards. There is also access to 7GB of free online storage courtesy of OneDrive.

The HTC Desire 300 offers just 4GB of internal memory and the microSD slot supports cards up to 32GB in size.

Nokia Lumia 520 vs. HTC Desire 300: Camera

The Nokia Lumia 520 and. HTC Desire 300 both come with a 5-Megapixel camera, with the HTC having the edge with a VGA front-facing camera. However, it's not quite as clear cut as the pixel count would suggest.

The HTC Desire 300 has an aperture of f/2.8, while the Nokia Lumia 520 has an improved aperture of f/2.4, which means the sensor will receive more light, especially in low-light conditions, which is important as neither phone comes with a Flash, so the Lumia will take better images.

Nokia Lumia 520 vs. HTC Desire 300: Battery

The HTC Desire 300 is larger than the Nokia Lumia 520 so it comes as no real surprise that it packs in a larger battery pack, with a 1650 mAh battery, compared to the 1430 mAh of the Lumia 520. However, as the Lumia is running Windows Phone we'd expect it to last as just, as the OS is known for being power efficient.

Nokia Lumia 520 vs. HTC Desire 300: Price

If you're looking for a budget smartphone then price often pays a key factor in the buying decision and this is where the Nokia Lumia 520 has a clear advantage.

The HTC Desire 300 can be yours for £129.99 (inc. VAT) on PAYG, or you can pick it up SIM free for £156.62 (inc. VAT). You'll find the latest prices at HTC

Now, compare this to the Nokia Lumia 520, which you can buy for £69.99 (inc. VAT) on PAYG, or as little as £101.39 (inc. VAT) SIM free. You'll find the latest prices at Nokia UK

Now, at this price difference the edge the HTC Desire 300 offers in size of screen doesn't seem quite as cost-effective, making the Nokia Lumia 520 even more tempting than it was before, wouldn't you say?
