50,000 HTC Desire 816 phablets sold out in 10 minutes

The HTC Desire 816 phablet has been warmly received in China where over a million people registered their interest to buy one. Those registrations are slowly turning into actual sales - slowly, because there were only 50,000 units available and they flew off the shelves in 10 minutes.

This demand seems to have surprised both HTC and the online retailer handling the sales as people have reported issues ordering a Desire 816.

Both HTC and the retailer are regrouping and will issue another batch on March 21, which will go on sale at 10:00 when things will go smoother, HTC promised on its Sina Weibo account.

The European launch of the HTC Desire 816 is still a few weeks off, but if the early high pre-order prices prove to be accurate, it might not be as successful as in China where it sells for CNY 1,900 ($310).
