"It is a proud moment for everyone at Microsoft that the best man to lead the company has been selected. All employees are celebrating!" said Anil Bhansali, managing director, Microsoft India (R&D) Pvt Ltd and general manager, Cloud & Enterprise, Microsoft India Development Center.
In his 23 years at Microsoft, Bhansali has interacted with Nadella on several occasions both in Redmond and India, and describes him as a dynamic personality with excellent leadership traits.
"He is an incredibly focused leader and has the ability to turn every challenge into an opportunity. Anyone who goes for a meeting with him comes out charged and energized," he said.
The 'wait' for the appointment of Nadella as CEO began about four month s ago. "I have been tracking developments on the appointment of Nadella as the CEO. His story is extremely encouraging. What is inspiring is the fact that he has been in the company for 22 years which is a major lesson for many job hopping Indians," said Vivek Anand, CEO, Arike Electric.
Nadella's ascent is inspirational for many aspiring entrepreneurs, he added. "Nadella joined Microsoft when it was not the tech giant that it is now. But he stuck it out and the results are there for all to see," Anand said.
There is a view that Nadella has also shattered the stereotype of an Indian employee as a solely technical specialist.
"Most Indians, especially in the software and IT industry, are slotted as technical experts and not so much as 'managers'. However, with Nadella joining the ranks of Indra Nooyi of PepsiCo and Shantanu Narayan of Adobe, this image has changed," said Santhosh Nanduri, 26, a software engineer working with a leading city firm.
