Pictures of Samsung Galaxy S5 leaked ahead of launch - Times of India

NEW DELHI: Just a few hours ahead of its expected launch, purported pictures of the Samsung Galaxy S5 have appeared online.

A Hardwarezone.com forum member and Twitter user @SaudAndroid have posted images of the alleged Galaxy S5 smartphone. In terms of design, the phone doesn't look very different from the Galaxy S4, though it appears to be considerably bigger, sporting a larger display.

The phone still features a physical Home button which reportedly features a swipe-type fingerprint scanner. One of the pictures featuring the phone's UI also shows a setting option for the fingerprint scanner.

Judging by the leaked images, Galaxy S5 will also feature a removable back cover that will not sport a faux-leather finish unlike the Galaxy Note 3. Instead, it features a dotted texture. The back of the phone features a square chrome ring that su rrounds the camera lens and the LED flash. The back cover hides a removable battery and slots for a micro-sim and microSD card stacked above each other.

A picture that features both Galaxy S4 and the alleged Galaxy S5 show that the latter is comparatively larger. The Galaxy S5's micro-USB port is protected by a plastic flap suggesting that the phone may be water and dust resistant.

In terms of software, TouchWiz has not undergone a major change though icons appear to be flatter in the leaked images. The Camera app's interface looks a little different and depicts the phone's ability to capture 4K videos. One of the shots also show the phone running a Heart rate monitor app.

The Galaxy S5 is rumoured to have a 5.25-inch AMOLED display, bigger than the 5-inch screen of its predecessor. While the screen size has been 'confirmed' by several reports, the resolution remains unclear. While some reports clai m that it will have 2K resolution (2560x1440p), others say that Samsung will continue to use a full HD panel (1920x1080p) in Galaxy S5.

It has been reported that Samsung will use the latest Qualcomm processor, Snapdragon 805, in the Galaxy S5. However, markets like India, which do not have high 4G penetration, are expected to get an Exynos-powered variant of Galaxy S5. The device is also said to have 3GB RAM, just like Galaxy Note 3.

The phone is expected to sport a 16MP Isocell sensor, featuring technologies like optical image stabilization, slow-motion recording and 4K (movie hall quality) recording.
