San Francisco: Google Inc. senior vice president Susan Wojcicki , one of the search engine's first employees, will take over leadership of the company's YouTube unit.
Wojcicki, the executive in charge of advertising products, will replace Salar Kamangar , who is taking an unspecified position within the company, said a person familiar with the moves, who asked not to be identified because the role hasn't been announced. Wojcicki assumed more duties last year in commerce amid an executive shake-up at the Mountain View, California-based company.
Like Salar, Susan has a healthy disregard for the impossible and is excited about improving YouTube in ways that people will love, chief executive officer Larry Page wrote today in an e-mailed statement.
YouTube, which has more than 1 billion users, is adding content to woo viewers and advertisers. In addition to all of its free content, YouTube offers a video-rental service with titles from Viacom Inc. 's Paramount Pictures and Walt Disney Co .
YouTube, acquired by Google in 2006, generated $5.6 billion in gross advertising sales in 2013, according to EMarketer Inc. After paying back advertising partners and content creators, the company had $1.96 billion in ad revenue, up 66% from the prior year.
Wojcicki is famous for having provided the initial workspace for Google co-founders Page and Sergey Brin in 1998 at her house in Menlo Park, California. Bloomberg
