Travel gadgets: Nokia Lumia 625, Lavazza EspressGo and more - Herald Sun

Nokia Lumia 625

From $399 / nokia.com.au

The first thing I noticed about the Nokia Lumia 625 is the large 4.7" screen and brightly coloured case, which made it easy to spot when packing and unpacking. Powered by Windows Phone 8 the Lumia has all of the features of a smartphone without the cost.

A key selling point are the HERE Maps and HERE Drive functions, which not only show you how to get from A to B but also feature everything you pass along the way including services, restaurants and attractions. The high-speed connections mean that videos load effortlessly, which is perfect for kids during long car trips. The camera quality was sharp and vibrant, we didn't use our SLR camera during our trip, opting to use the Lumia.

The Lavazza EspressGo

LAVAZZA ESPRESSGO

$199.99 / store.amodomio.com.au

This could be the ultimate toy for the camper who has everything. It is a fully portable Italian coffee capsule machine that is charged from the cigarette lighter socket of your car, van or even boat. It is not much bigger than a Thermos. It takes about three minutes to make a decent cup of coffee. Heaven when you are enjoying the great outdoors.

NEONTUFF UNBREAKABLE SCREEN

$29.95 / neontuff.com

Apparently the Neontuff unbreakable screen protector can withstand the force of a hammer. I say apparently because I wasn't game to put it to the test. This 0.3mm screen protector is easy to put on the face of your Smartphone or iPad ($79.95 for an iPad). It comes in four colours - green, yellow, orange and clear. It comes with a two-year warranty. After shattering several screens I think it is a worthwhile investment.

GLOBALGIG

Globalgig

Bill shock can become a thing of the past with Globalgig, available as either a SIM card or a portable, pocket-friendly wireless hotspot device. Globalgig accesses mobile data services in dozens of countries including the US, England, Hong Kong, Spain and Italy.

When you travel with a Globalgig device your hotspot will automatically register on the network when you arrive at a destination.

When tested in New York City the Globalgig device did the business, connecting us to Wi-Fi in hotels and when out and about exploring.

1GB of data accessed on the go while travelling internationally costs from $19 a month.
