Launch titles for the Xbox One include Forza Motorsport 5, Dead Rising 3, and Ryse: Son of Rome exclusive to Xbox One, alongside the latest titles from the biggest gaming franchises including FIFA 14, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4 and Assassin's Creed: Black Flag.
The Xbox One also offers an array of TV, film and music apps, including 4oD, Amazon's Lovefilm, blinkbox, Crackle, Demand 5, Eurosport, Machinima, Muzu TV, Sky's Now TV, TED, Twitch and Wuaki.tv.
"With the strongest line-up of games we've ever seen for a new console, pre-orders from fans across the UK are at unprecedented levels," said Phil Harrison, Corporate Vice President, Interactive Entertainment Business, Microsoft EMEA.
"The games industry is evolving and growing fast, and we are proud to have so many British developers and creators helping to drive the new Xbox One era."
Microsoft's Xbox One launch comes a week before Sony unleashes its new champion in the long-running console war between the two companies – the Playstation 4. Released in the US on 15 November, Sony said it sold more than a million PS4 consoles in the first 24 hours.
The PS4 will hit shelves in the UK for £349 on November 29. Analysts said that it remained to be seen which of the new-generation consoles will prove more popular, but noted that the lower price plays in favour of the PS4.
