Nexus 5 is officially here: 16GB at Rs 28999, 32GB at Rs 32999 - Firstpost




Google's flagship phone, the Nexus 5 is available on the India Google Play store. The 16GB version is available for Rs 28,999 which is Rs 1,000 cheaper than the price that LG is officially selling it for. The 32GB version is selling for Rs 32,999.


The device availability in India comes a mere two weeks after it was officially launched, making this the quickest that Google has ever launched its flagship phone in the country. The Nexus 4 came at least six months after it was officially launched. Google has promised to ship the device in 2-3 working days.


As far as pricing is concerned, Google has really hit the sweet spot with this smartphone. Unlike the recent flagship launches in India which have all been priced over Rs 40,000, Google's latest smartphone is under Rs 33,000.

For instance LG's G2 is priced closest to the Nexus 5 at Rs 41,500 for a 16 GB version, while a 32 GB version of the smartphone is Rs 44,500. Both versions of the smartphone are retailing for under Rs 40,000 online with Flipkart offering the 32 GB version for Rs 40,490 and 16 GB version for 37,999. Still that makes the smartphone over Rs 35,000. The smartphone has a 5.2-inch screen with a 13 megapixel camera but its running Android 4.2.2. with LG's Optimus 3.0 user interface on top. In terms of the OS, this is still much older, and the phone is priced much higher.


For now, terms of premium smartphones by top brands, the Nexus 5 is clearly the cheapest smartphone at least with the kind of pricing Google is showing for now.


In terms of features, the Nexus 5 has a 4.95-inch screen with 1920×1080 display which is at 445 pixels per inch.


The front camera is 1.3 megapixel, while the rear camera is 8 megapixels with Optical Image Stablisation. The smartphone has a 2,300 mAH battery with Google promising talk time up to 17 hours and Internet time up to 8.5 hours on Wi-Fi, up to 7 hours on LTE. The smartphone supports wireless charging.


As far as processing, goes it has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core chipset clocked at 2.3GHz and Adreno 330 clocked at 450MHz for Graphic. It has 2GB RAM. The smartphone also supports the newer Dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4G/5G) 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, comes with NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 (Low energy version).


The device has a Micro USB port, and list of sensors includes Accelerometer, GPS, Compass, Proximity/Ambient Light, Gyroscope. It supports 2g, 3G and 4G LTE.


As far as the camera is concerned, Google has introduced some new settings such as HDR+ mode, 360 degree shot. HDR+ will take a burst of pictures in one shot and combine them to give you the best possible picture under the light settings. The Optical Image stabilisation also ensures that even if your hands are shaking a bit, the image won't be blurry. Photosphere will let you take a full 360 degree picture now, which does look pretty cool.
