Nexus 5 has been in the market for quite a while now and while arguably it isn't all that impressive specs wise as we had originally thought it to be, here are a few reasons why it is still one of the best Android mobile phones around.
1. KitKat Right Out Of The Box
Apart from being the first device with Android 4.4 KitKat, the Nexus 5 also happens to be the only device which comes with Android 4.4 KitKat right out of the box. This advantage alone gives it an edge against all other Android phones, most of whom are still running on the older Android 4.2 Jelly Bean or got recently updated to Android 4.3.
2. Manufactured By LG, Made By Google
Even if it is manufactured by LG, the Nexus 5 still carries the Google brand logo on its back cover. This means that every piece of software which Google designs, will be made while keeping the Nexus 5 as the ideal device in mind. This basically means that you are never going to run into compatibility issues with any Google service whatsoever.
3. Developer Support
The Nexus 5 is a highly developer friendly device. Google actually encourages you to root it, flash it and do all kinds of hackery which you would possibly never even dare to do on a 'normal' device. Additionally, the Nexus 5 has a great user base so you can easily get answer to your specific questions from various forums (read XDA) in case you get stuck somewhere down the road.
4. No Bloatware, It's Just Pure Google Experience
Similar to all the Nexus devices, the Nexus 5 also does not also come with any sort of bloatware. There is no LG's UI shoved in or any carrier app pre-installed, it is just pure Google experience. Not only does this minimize memory usage but is also a lot less engaging for the processor, making the Nexus 5 far snappier and more responsive than the rest of the crowd.
5. Always The First One To Get Updated
This one is not for the Nexus 5 but for all the Nexus devices together. Nexus devices are always the first ones to get updated to the latest firmware, which not only means that you will be running the latest software at all points of time, but it also essentially means that whenever Android 5.0 comes out, you will still be among the first few of the crowd to get it.
6. Heavily Subsidised By Google
Nexus devices have always been used by Google as means of serving Android to the masses and it is because of this very reason that they provide the Nexus devices with top notch hardware but still manage subsidise the prices to a great extent. For instance, T-Mobile is selling the 16GB version of the Nexus 5 for almost $450 while the same variant of the Nexus 5 is available for sale in the Play Store for a reasonable $349.99 price tag. At this rate, Google is practically making the Nexus 5 a steal deal.
7. Google Now
Even if it isn't as good as the Moto X, Google still has incorporated a number of features of its voice recognition system into the Nexus 5. No, you can't unlock the device with just voice commands, that's still an exclusive to the Moto X but you can still do a lot more through the home screen.
8. Wireless Charging
As futuristic it might seem, wireless charging has been around for quite a while now, however, save it for the Nexus 4 and a few other devices, wireless charging never really took off in the Android world. Nonetheless, the Nexus 5 supports it and Google has confirmed that they will be selling the wireless charger for Nexus 5 sometime soon.
9. Photo Sphere
Photo Sphere was originally introduced with the previous year's Nexus 4 from where it made it to the Google Play Editions of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One (priced at $650 and $600, respectively). Unfortunately, no other devices seem to have Photo Sphere which makes the Nexus 5 the only device capable of this feature under $350.
