ntex Aqua i7 was the last big launch from the company.
High on their amazing success in recent months, Indian smartphone manufacturers are not leaving anything for their larger global rivals to monopolise.
Intex Technologies on Monday announced that it will soon launch a phone with MediaTek's Octa-core chipset. That will make it the first Indian company to offer this technology that has caught the fancy of tech fans after Samsung launched its flagship Galaxy S4 with a 1.6 GHz octa-core version.
But with a MediaTek chip inside, the Intex offering will be much more affordable than the S4. Along with the 1.7 Ghz Octa-core MediaTek processor, Intex said the Android 4.2.2 phone will also have dual SIM capability. While there will be 16 and 32 GB versions with 2GB RAM, there will be a 13MP rear camera.
In a release, Sanjay Kumar Kalirona, Business Head-Mobile, Intex Technologies said the company wanted to become the top smartphone player in the industry and this has "made us bring extraordinary products with such revolutionary technology to the consumers".
However, as with quad-core processors, the problem with octa-core will be the fact that there are hardly any apps written to use the capabilities of these processors. It will make multi-tasking faster, but that will be it for quite some time.
MediaTek says its True Octa-Core can speed up web browsing and interfaces, while also offering a better gaming and video experience.
