With the Nexus 4, Google was among the first to show that a high-quality smartphone could be offered unlocked and off-contract for half the price of other big names. A year later, others are beginning to enter the field with less-expensive advanced devices that can be owned outright without any other strings attached, but Google's new Nexus 5 still leads the pack. The Nexus 4 successor comes with LTE, a beautiful HD display, a Snapdragon 800 processor, and Android KitKat, for just $349. At the moment it offers the best overall value in the smartphone world, if you can get hold of one.
