The iPhone 5s' Touch ID fingerprint-scanner technology subs for a passcode to unlock your phone, as well as an Apple ID password to make purchases in the iTunes Store, App Store, and iBooks Store. But "fingerprint" isn't exactly the right term; YouTube is already packed with people unlocking their phones with various bodily extremities.
Touch ID rests in the Home button, where a laser-cut sapphire crystal uses biometrics and capacitive touch to identify the user and detect the skin's electrical charge. It has set off all sorts of privacy and security concerns, but it has also excitedâ¦um, curiosity as to just which body parts can arouse the iPhone from slumber mode. While the footprint for the fingerprint is smallâ"the same size dimple in the faceplate as everâ"Touch ID can be triggered by any body part that can nestle into the spot and get registered.
One of the first experimental videos to appear is still the most adorable. A fluffy, dark grey cat's paw taps on the screen (assisted by a human) and turns on the 5s. Awww.
From there though, things have gotten a little weird. One guy who might not have fully considered the "no shirt, no shoes, no service" policy of most places has registered his toe for Touch ID. And there are now more male nipples on YouTube than in Magic Mike as men take their love of the 5s to heart. And considering that portable porn is more and more popular with sites like Vine getting people off on the go, iPhones are letting penises return the favor by turning them on.
We've rounded up the top ways people (and pets) are getting in touch with the iPhone 5s. Before you click through, you might want to grab an antibacterial wipe or two. We know we could use one.
